Dragon Boating: |
Chatham Festival 2006 marked the 5th annual Dragon Boat races in Tecumseh Park, Chatham. The races took place on Saturday July 1st, during the exciting Canada Day Celebrations. The Chatham race featured Taiwan-style dragon boats. This style of racing is particularly exciting as the participants race to a flag at the end of the 250 meter course, with one of the members of the team reaching out to grab the flag out of the water, signaling the end of the race (see picture below). Registration was $500 per team, and teams are comprised of 20 paddlers plus a flag-catcher. You will be supplied with a sterns person (if necessary).
